‘Argylle 2024’ honest review, rollercoaster of espionage and crime! Join us as we decode the brilliance and blemishes of this cinematic journey, exploring the highs, lows, and unexpected twists that make this film a captivating yet flawed experience.”
The film “Argylle” is currently in its third week of release and still holds a position in the top five at the box office
The story revolves around a woman who, once a successful writer of spy and crime genre books, finds herself suddenly immersed in a criminal adventure. She realizes that what she has written has actually happened in some corner of the world. This sets the stage and the first act of the story, with the rest portraying the protagonist’s journey to solve problems and return to her normal life.
The initial idea of the film is very fitting and has sufficient innovation. The introduction and start of the film are suitable and engaging. The transition between the fictional world and the author’s world is well portrayed.
The created visuals, dialogues, and distinctive settings effectively convey that while the writer is the creator of the fictional world, she is more drawn to the world of her story than the normal life. The visual style and music in the storytelling sections resemble the structure of crime and spy films, especially “Kingsman,” with shining visuals, elegant costumes, high-speed actions, escapes, pursuits, and confrontations—embodying all the elements of its genre.
Character designs are multi-layered, a natural occurrence in this genre where characters undergo identity changes. These character transformations lead some characters to evolve from the first act to the second, and the same technique is used again in the transition from the second to the third act.

However, this approach becomes a problem as it sidelines “Henry Cavill” as the main supporting character from the beginning of the second act. Surprisingly, the secondary supporting character becomes more crucial, portrayed by “Sam Rockwell.” It’s interesting that the film heavily emphasizes “Henry Cavill” in promotional material, almost featuring him prominently in all posters. This diversion of focus towards the end of the first act will undoubtedly disappoint those who were eager to see their favorite star throughout the movie.
Nevertheless, I try to approach the film critically and professionally, not attaching too much importance to the stars. In fact, I find the second act much better than the first, and I consider Sam Rockwell’s performance as one of the film’s highlights. Also, the supporting character is vibrant and successful.

As mentioned, the first act is good, but the second act is excellent. The transition from the ordinary life of a writer with criminal dreams into an intense criminal adventure is well-imagined and gets better and better until the end of the second act. The pacing becomes faster, action and adventure dominate, and the central focus of the story is carried forward by the duo of “Sam Rockwell” and “Bryce Dallas Howard.” Until the climax of the second act arrives—an excellent narrative twist with a brilliant touch to the crime genre.
The designer of this scene truly had a deep understanding of the narrative spirit of the crime genre. Just a moment after the significant discovery and revelation in the climax of the second act, everything falls apart. The first signs of the film’s decline appear shortly after the major revelation in the second act itself, the moment when the character “Elly Conway” says, “the reader had emailed in this insane, brilliant idea for a twist to bring her back.”
The film becomes progressively engaged in a decline from this scene, and the decline continues until the third act fades away. The third act becomes so weak and illogical that it damages the credibility of the entire film. Here is where the audience’s dissatisfaction, resulting from changes in the first and second acts, turns into apparent complaints.
The primary problem emerges when, after the climax of the second act, the writer and director lose track of the storyline. Their excessive insistence on changing narratives and characters robs the story of its purpose and meaning. They seem unsure of what to do, resorting to a romantic conclusion between the two main characters to conclude the story. Here, the film’s main flaw becomes apparent.
The second major flaw is that the film fails to provide a romantic narrative for the relationship between the two main characters, played by “Sam Rockwell” and “Bryce Dallas Howard,” making it tangible for the audience. The intense focus on changes and adventurous challenges has overshadowed the opportunity to deepen relationships. Keep in mind that this film took a big risk by changing the supporting character’s personality in the transition from the first to the second act. These changes could have achieved excellent results, but unfortunately, the desired outcome was not achieved. If the third act had been different, the film could have been much more enduring and exemplary in the future.

Argylle 2024 review Conclusion:
“Argylle 2024” embarks on a promising journey, weaving an intricate tale of espionage, crime, and unexpected twists. While the film’s initial concept showcases innovation, captivating visuals, and a seamless transition between worlds, it encounters turbulence in its execution. The second act stands out as the pinnacle, with a brilliant narrative twist and compelling performances, particularly from Sam Rockwell. However, the film falters in the third act, losing its logical coherence and damaging the overall credibility. The primary flaw lies in a deviation from the storyline’s core, and a missed opportunity to provide a tangible romantic narrative for the central characters. Despite its shortcomings, “Argylle 2024” remains an engaging watch, offering glimpses of brilliance.
